Dr. Jody Mitchell serves as Chief Medical Officer of Vela Health, where he combines clinical expertise with executive leadership to advance the company’s mission. Board certified in both Family Medicine and Sports Medicine, Dr. Mitchell has built his career around designing systems that elevate quality, expand access, and improve the healthcare experience for patients and providers alike. His passion is empowering those closest to the patient—clinicians, caregivers, and families—to improve care outcomes through collaboration and innovation.

In addition to his work at Vela, Dr. Mitchell also serves as Chief Medical Officer at EmpowerMe Wellness, an integrated healthcare organization serving more than 700 senior living communities across the country. In that role, he has spearheaded the development of care models that blend telehealth, onsite services, and population health strategies to better serve seniors nationwide.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Mitchell was the Medical Director of Outpatient Services for Owensboro Health, a hospital system in western Kentucky. Working in partnership with system leadership, he guided large-scale outpatient operations, physician recruitment, and quality improvement initiatives—all while continuing his clinical practice.

Dr. Mitchell earned his medical degree from the University of Kentucky, where he also completed his residency and fellowship, and later received his MBA from Western Kentucky University, graduating at the top of his class. He and his wife, Kate, live in Goshen, Kentucky with their three children. Together they enjoy family life, coaching youth sports, staying active outdoors, and cheering on the University of Kentucky Wildcats.
